COMPUTER NETWORK/IT WRITING SERVICE

The purpose of a network is to share resources, like files, applications, and printers. The purpose of a client-server network is to have at least one centralized server that manages the shared resources and security for the network users and computers.

In simplest terms, a computer network is created to share. In teaching computer networking it is often commented that if you find someone who didn’t like to use the computer network, they probably had a personal issue with the concept of sharing.

You will often see the terms protocol suite or protocol stack used interchangeably. The protocol stack is an implementation of a computer networking protocol suite.

A Network protocol is an agreed upon set of rules that define how network computers communicate. Different types of computers, using different operating systems, can communicate with each other, and share information as long as they follow the network protocols.

Benefits Of Computer Networks

Setting up a computer network is a fast and reliable way of sharing information and resources within a business. It can help you make the most of your IT systems and equipment.

Main benefits of networks include :-

File sharing :–  You can easily share data between different users, or access it remotely if you keep it on other connected devices.

Resource sharing :– Using network-connected peripheral devices like printers, scanners and copiers, or sharing software between multiple users, saves money.

Sharing a single internet connection :– It is cost-efficient and can help protect your systems if you properly secure the network.

Increasing storage capacity :– You can access files and multimedia, such as images and music, which you store remotely on other machines or network-attached storage devices.

Types Of Computer Network

Different computers connected to each other for sharing resources is known as a computer network.

It may be wired or wireless.

And computers can be connected in different ways according to your needs, that is the type of network, known as topology.

There are several topologies.

  • BUS topology
  • Star topology
  • Ring topology

These three are the most famous topologies.

There are many types of network based on area or distance such as PAN, LAN, MAN, WAN, CAN, SAN. These Types of the network as based on the area. To know more about PAN, LAN, MAN, WAN, CAN, SAN keep reading this article till the end you will get to know more about it.

PAN :-  Personal Area Network (PAN) is types of area network which operates between two people in which they are able to share files, folders, software or any other information. Example :- Bluetooth device

LAN :- Local Area Network (LAN) is a type of network which operates at the home, office, hospitals, school building. this types of the network only operate at these places and it is considered in the Local Area Network.Example- Homes, Offices, School, and Hospitals, etc.

MAN :- Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a type of network which spreads from city to city. If two branches of the office. And etc.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Computer Networking

A computer network is two or more computers which are able to communicate with each other, trade data and files, and/or share resources. The advantages of using a computer network are easy to understand when you picture a business office with multiple departments. An accountant on the 2nd floor can simply email or fax a report to his/her manager on the 4th floor. Without a computer network in place, the accountant would have to print a copy of the report and deliver it by hand to his/her boss.

The internet itself is at its simplest level  a massive collection of computer networks. Basically, everything we know about the internet and how we use it today is based on computer networking.

There aren’t many disadvantages to computer networks, but there are a few. Privacy is one concern – network equipment needs to be configured properly in order to be safe from outside probes. Planning and building networks also require time and money. The amount of time and money you’ll spend developing a network is directly correlated to how large and how sophisticated your network is. Routers, switches, cabling, workstations, servers, etc. all need to be bought and implemented correctly for the network to function…which usually requires hiring an IT professional, which then adds to your expense.

Common Network Devices

Most network devices fall into one or more of the following categories :-

Routers :— layer 3, primarily to act as the demarcation point between networks.

Switches :—  layer 2, primarily for providing port density and breaking up the collision domain.

Media converters :— For 1:1 conversion between different physical media (e.g. copper to fiber ethernet). Usually these are embedded into the device but can be turned into modules (e.g. SFPs) or fully separate devices to provide connectivity to devices that never envisioned a new interface type.

Aggregators :— Somewhat special case of media converters, primary differentiator is that there is a 1:n relationship between the headend device and the clients. This requires these devices to have access control, fair usage of the medium and and especially for the commercial examples bandwidth controls. Examples are cable CMTS, dsl DSLAM, gpon OLTs and the most ubiquitous wifi access points.

Firewalls :— Primarily focused on security and access control usually works from layer 3 and up (layer 2 and down are usually dealt with by the actual security built into the layers).

Obviously there are devices that mix these categories, one of the most extensive of these would be your home router especially if it integrates the access to the upstream network, but most core routers integrate basic firewalls and there are quite a few layer 3 switches which perform basic layer 3 functions at wire speed but at the end of the day these are the basic functions that underlies I would say 99% of network equipment in operation today.
